A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided.

PoliceCIGARETTE THUG GUNNED DOWN

BY FORT BEAUFORT POLICE

A.N. Venter

FORT BEAUFORT:

An unidentified suspect who was apparently making a living out of stolen tobacco products was stopped dead in his tracks last Wednesday when he was gunned down by local police in broad daylight on the corner of Campbell and Durban Street here. According to Col. Sibongile Soci, police spokesperson a vehicle of British American Tobacco (BAT) was hijacked and robbed of several tobacco products at around 11 a.m on Wednesday. Members op SAPS in Fort Beaufort were placed on high alert and at around 12h30 the vehicle, a white BMW was spotted in town. Two policemen patrolling in an unmarked vehicle pulled it off the road and upon searching it found it to be full of tobacco products. At this point the suspect produced a firearm and started firing at the police. They returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect behind steering wheel of the vehicle. He died on the scene.

The interior and trunk of the vehicle were filled to capacity with the stolen tobacco products. The vehicle is believed to have been hijacked in the Western Cape earlier. The value of the tobacco products is estimated at around R100 000. Inside the vehicle police also found a firearm of which the serial number has been filed off as well as several bullets. A case of armed robbery has been opened for police investigation. An inquest docket (relating to the death of the suspect) will be handled by the Independent Poliice Investigative Directive for investigation.

 SLAGGATE BY POSKANTOOR

SOMERSET-OOS
