‘n BIDDAG VIR VREDE EN VERDRAAG-SAAMHEID

MIDDELBURG

Viva Mandela, Viva De Klerk (Die Nuwe Suid-Afrika – 1993)
Daar bly steeds ‘n wye kloof.
Hoe lank sal jul die uitroep doof.
Neem liewer jul toevlug tot Geloof.
Viva Mandela, Viva de Klerk.
Sal julle ooit saam kon dink.

WARNING TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND
BUSINESSES TO EXERCISE SAFETY MEASURES
WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF CASH
SAPS-Eastern Cape would like to warn and alert individuals, groups of people, entrepreneurs and business owners to exercise caution and take extra safety measures when drawing, carrying, sharing large amounts of cash, and paying bonus salaries throughout this festive season.
“The festive season period is generally characterized by high economic activity and this increases opportunities for criminals to take their chances”, said the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt General Celiwe Binta earlier this morning.
We have observed that a significant number of incidents where people have been robbed while drawing, carrying and sharing money reported to the police around the province. The public and businesses are encouraged to make use of banking facilities like cellphone banking or internet transfers. Most banks in South Africa have the option of electronic cash transfers, these services should be explored to minimize the hard cash flow.
We also encourage use of ATM (Automatic Transfer Machine) to make financial transactions without carrying lots of hard cash. We understand that it is unavoidable to carry cash, if it is possible, carry as little cash as possible to minimize the loss or bait for thugs and opportunistic robbers. Never display your cash and riches to general public, even to people close to you. For business people, we highly recommend that they should refrain from openly displaying money whilst depositing or standing in a bank queue. They should be careful of displaying a regular pattern of going to the bank with visible cash containers like money banks, cash boxes, briefcases even the deposit receipt book.
Contract employers should avoid paying wages in public or open spaces or driving to the bank with a branded vehicle on a typical pay day. Instead, consider electronic transfer of wages to your contract or casual labourers personal bank accounts. If your business is growing with regular depositing, consider using cash management services.
Stokvels and savings clubs who will be sharing their savings at this time of the year like groceries and their earnings should also consider arranging electronic pay out to transfer money into each member’s personal account or accounts of their choice.
“We are optimistic that the full might of the collaborative efforts of the SAPS, the businesses fraternity and community members will yield the desired results in curbing these robberies”, concluded Lt General Binta.
