Koekie het die hoofprys vir die Groot Kampioen 5-gang saalperd van die Somerset-Oos Landbouskou wat die naweek hier gehou was, gewen. Die saalperd 5-gang Kampioenskap, het ‘n naelbyt kampioenskap met van die land se top saalperde in aksie opgelewer. Wat ‘n topklas skou het die Landbougenootskap nie aangebied nie!! Water Pipeline upgrade for Cookhouse
Water problems for Cookhouse seems to be something of the past!! A bulk water contract to supply bulk water to the town of Cookhouse from the canal at Uitkeer was completed recently. The project which was initiated in 2009 and was done by consulting engineers, Water and Pumping Solutions, and constructed by Manlambo Construction. The total value of the contract was approximately R8million. According to Nell Potgieter, of Water and Pumping Solutions, phase 1 of the Cookhouse Bulk Water Supply contract consisted of approximately 3.8 kms of new PVC pipeline from the farm “Orchards” to the end of the Bosberg canal, upgrading of the in and outlet structures as well as refurbishment of approximately 9kms of existing SAR pipelines from the canal offtake near Uitkeer to the farm “Orchards”.
Phase 2 of the contract will consist of the replacing of the SAR pipeline with PVC pipes as soon as funding comes available. Local labour and local SMME’s were used on the contract, comprising of 5 adult men, 2 adult women, 25 youth men and 3 youth women. A total of 35 local jobs were created over the duration of the contract. According to Nell Potgieter, they were very impressed with the quality of work the SMME’s and the labourers have done and the professional way that the contractor, Mamlambo Construction, has handled the contract. The total income of these 35 local jobs amounted to approximately R340 000,00. Funding for the project originated from the Municipal Infrastructure Grant Funding.

27 – 28 September 2013, Grassridge dam to Cradock Sports Complex
The 23rd edition of the Hansa Fish Canoe Marathon which takes place in Cradock on Friday, 27 and Saturday, 28 September will welcome canoeists from every corner of the country, and the world.
The race is characteristically known for being a test of stamina and endurance has hosted more SA River championship title deciders than any other race. The two day race attracts people from the Cape, Eastern Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal to the small Cradock community.
The community known for giving back to the community always welcome visitors with open arms and the funds generated this year will go towards the Eastern Cape Canoe Union (ECCU) development programme. The programme assists communities interested in canoeing and respectively raises funds to assist with the equipment used for the sport.
“Pimp me Disney” is this year’s theme and it invites all participants to decorate themselves to their favourite animated movie. Expect to see Buzz Light-Year, Shrek or Snow-White at the Hansa Fish this year. The ‘best dressed’ paddlers will be rewarded with their bodyweight in Hansa Pilsener with this year’s “Pimp my ride” competition.
The ever popular Hansa Music festival will feature the likes of Theuns Jordaan on the Friday evening with Centre Stage to close the weekend on a high when they perform on the Gig Rig on Saturday evening. Entry fees for non-paddlers at the Sport Complex is R60 on Friday, R50 on Saturday and children under 12 pay R30 for both nights.
